Things I plan to accomplish this month:
- Traveling Robe: I need to adjust the sleeves where they meet the body of the tunic, attach the hood, hem anything that needs to be hemmed (unless I decide the ragged bottom hem looks better), put in grommets for side-lacing, and add embroidery.
For the side-lacing, I think I'm just going to leave the side seams open all the way up, since I'm going to have to do that when I fix the sleeves. I may take a strip out of each side, too, so that when it's laced the fabric won't bunch up. The embroidery will probably be herringbone stiches along each side seam (they help reinforce it), with interlocking triangles around the front slit and hood. Unless I stick with herringbone there, as well. Right now, I want the colors to be brown and midnight blue.
- Nomi Sunrider's skirt and top: I'm either going to create a choli, or draft a pattern along the lines of a white blouse I already own for the top. The skirt, either a simple gored skirt I learned from The Tangled Web or the one from Simplicity 8375, altered to accomdate a missing bustle.
The belt with all its pouches I'll have to hunt for, and I'm not sure at the moment what I'll do about her gloves. Her hair, all I'll have to do is comb the curls out enough to give me Hermione hair, and add red to it. But since this will, in the end, become Vesper Mari's outfit, not Nomi Sunrider's, those small details won't matter. I'll come up with something fitting Vesper's style.
- Lightsaber: I'm leaning towards a design like Nomi Sunrider's, Vima-Da-Boda's, Darth Exodous', or Leia's, as shown over at The Hilt. Something very simplistic yet elegant in design, not one of those that look like a glorified flashlight or like it belongs in a "fanciest lightsaber" contest. However, this is probably going to be the last thing I work on this month, because I'll have to figure out how to put it together myself. (The Big Yellow Box has nothing this simplicitic. But I'll use his parts pages and instructions as guidelines.)
- Leia's Senatorial Gown: I decided that I'd rather do this one than the Dark Side Leia idea I had. For the DSL, I already have items of clothing that I can piece together for that. Because I refused to spend $30+ for the Butterick pattern I found on eBay, I'll probably have to alter one of the robes from Simplicity 8871 . That won't be a bad thing, because then I can do a tutorial on how to create her robes for people who don't have access to the now out-of-print Butterick pattern. If it works, that is. I know I'll have to add a collar and the hood and figure out a way to close the back with something other than velcro, like the pattern suggests.
- Hairstyle Tutorials: These will be coming along slowly. But, with the help of those posting in the female hairstyles thread at the Jedi Council Forums, I'll have plenty of ways to attempt some of Padmé Amidala's styles and advice on what to correct. Plus, I'm planning on doing several of Leia's, including redoing my Bespin Braids tutorial to make it more true to the movie.
And that, my dears, is how I plan to spend my free time this month. If it doesn't drive me crazy before May 31.
